Coop’s Shot Tower Melbourne Central Suburban Icon Poster

(0.0)
Sale price$50.00 AUD

Built in 1889 by the Coop family, this red-brick tower was once the heart of Australia's lead shot industry, and it stayed the tallest building in the CBD until the 1940s.

Molten lead was dropped 50 metres from the top into water, forming perfect pellets, with up to six tonnes made each week. The tower closed in 1961 and was nearly demolished, before being saved under Melbourne Central's famous glass cone in the 1980s.

The Melbourne heading on this print is inspired by the tower's original painted signage, a nice nod to its working past.

Designed by Historic Prints as part of the Suburban Icons collection, this Coop's Shot Tower art print comes in A4, A3, A2 and A1, perfect for gifting or adding a little Melbourne character to your walls.
