State Library Victoria The Forecourt Suburban Icon Poster
The State Library Victoria forecourt on Swanston Street is one of the CBD's best-loved open spaces: students on the lawn, giant chess games, friends meeting up and people simply watching the city go by.
Australia's oldest public library opened here in 1856, and its founder Sir Redmond Barry, the judge who sentenced Ned Kelly, still stands guard out front. The forecourt was fenced off until 1939, when it finally opened up to the public.
A print for book lovers, former uni students and anyone with fond memories of an afternoon on those lawns.
Designed by Historic Prints as part of the Suburban Icons collection, this State Library Forecourt art print comes in A4, A3, A2 and A1, perfect for gifting or adding a little Melbourne character to your walls.
